wind sensor demo

Yesterday we managed to get the first wind sensor working. Together with Richard I  connected the sensor to the RBBB board, calibrated it and read some wind/breath data from the serial port into Processing. It works surprisingly well:

I have already noticed that the distance from the sensor to the nostrils is critical. I’ll have to experiment. Richard had a nice idea. I should use the tubes to direct the air from the nostrils straight to the sensor for the most accurate result. I will give it a try. It will make the wearable more scary but that doesn’t have to be a problem 🙂

  1. Hi Sir.

My name Panha Kruoch. I am a student at Rmit university, Australia.

I am currently doing my final year project in Civil Engineering department, however I final ready project is relate to wind on the high-rise building. I have to create a wind sensors to calculate the wind speed in the wind-tunnel.

I am using MD0550 sensors and the arduino, the problem that I am facing is I really don’t know how to calculate the wind speed from the out put.

If you could provide me the code or the data sheet for that sensors, it will save my life.

    Thanks you

    1. Dear Panha,
Sorry for my late reply, your comment got to the bottom of my mail pile somehow. I didn’t actually calculated the wind speed, I didn’t need that for my project. The schematics you can find here: http://moderndevice.com/product/wind-sensor/ links at the bottom of the page. Your best bet to get an answer to you question is to pose it at the Modern device forums. Here’s one thread on the subject: http://forum.moderndevice.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=764 Good luck with your project. Best, danielle.
